GTA VI at a Glance

Grand Theft Auto VI is the next mainline entry in Rockstar Games’ long-running Grand Theft Auto video game series, and it is the studio’s most ambitious open-world project to date. Set for release on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the game moves the series back to the sun-soaked state of Leonida — home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and much more beyond. Rockstar describes it as “the biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.”

This fact sheet pulls together everything the official Rockstar pages and the latest gameplay reveal have confirmed about Grand Theft Auto VI: its dual protagonists, its setting, the systems behind GTA VI gameplay, the Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay trailer, weapons, vehicles, editions, and the cast you’ll meet along the way.

The Core Premise

Vice City, USA. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos have always known the deck is stacked against them. When an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, caught in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive. It’s a Bonnie-and-Clyde style criminal partnership, and the relationship between the two leads is central to both the story and the moment-to-moment play.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City Gameplay: The Neon Capital Returns

Vice City remains the beating heart of the map. In the “Only in Leonida” Places section, Rockstar labels the city “Everything in Excess” with the standfirst: “We’re a long way from the ’80s, but Vice City is still the sun and fun capital of America.” That single line does two jobs — it acknowledges the distance from the 1980s setting players remember, while keeping the same civic identity intact.

The neighbourhoods are built to reward exploration. You’ll find the pastel art deco hotels and bright white sands of Ocean Beach, the bustling panaderias of Little Cuba, the bootleg-brand stalls of the Tisha-Wocka flea market, and VC Port, described as the cruise ship capital of the world. Elsewhere in the city, Vice Beach is a natural spot for photo sessions, Vice Port hosts a duo safehouse during Act 2, and Boobie Ike’s Jack of Hearts strip club anchors the local nightlife.

GTA VI Gameplay: The Systems Behind the Reveal

The August 27, 2026 gameplay reveal showed off the systems that sit underneath the footage. Here’s what actually changed.

Two Leads, One Relationship

Jason and Lucia run jobs as a pair, and you can switch between them almost anywhere in the game. Their relationship is a system, not just a story beat — it can turn romantic or stay platonic, it grows through shared jobs and downtime, and repeatedly ignoring each other’s texts can damage the connection. The WhatUp texting app doubles as the relationship mechanic between the two.

Six Stars — and Hollow Ones

The wanted meter climbs back up to six stars for the first time since GTA IV, with NOOSE responding at the top end. The smarter addition is the hollow star: it means police are actively looking for you but have no confirmed description yet, so changing clothes, swapping vehicles, or putting on a mask can shake them. Jason and Lucia can also split up to divide the police response.

Combat That Reads the Body

Aiming now marks red points for lethal shots and yellow markers for joints you can disable, making non-lethal takedowns and disarms real options. You can swap between two carried firearms instantly without the weapon wheel, wield some guns one-handed, and slow-motion aiming returns alongside Max Payne-style kill cams.

Robberies With a Real Trade-Off

Scores are built around a choice between speed and value. Blowing a safe open is faster, but the blast damages some of what’s inside. Multiple exits let you plan around the police response, masks come off the item wheel, and weapons holster automatically as you walk into a store — so you decide when you stop being just another customer.

Cars Have to Be Broken Into

Vehicles are now tiered by security. Older cars fall to a Slim Jim minigame with a timing meter, while higher-end ones have electronic locks that need a key cloner. The Waink app scans a car for value, alarms, locks, and trackers before you commit; trunks store weapons and clothing, and visible damage cuts what a fence will pay.

A State Full of Things to Do

The montage confirms basketball, pool, mini golf, weight training, swimming, scuba diving, kayaking, fishing, hunting, base jumping, parachuting, shooting ranges, stock car and dirt bike racing, jet skis, airboats, and even backyard wrestling with WWE-style finishers. Working out and eating visibly change how the characters look.

Scale and Density

Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA V’s map, and Vice City alone is about double Los Santos. The bigger jump is density: Rockstar has spoken of more than 600,000 NPC animations against roughly 55,000 in GTA V, and the map now uses satellite-style imagery rather than simple road plans.

The GTA VI Gameplay Trailer: What the Footage Confirmed

The gameplay trailer and its Extended Look tied concrete missions to the systems above. The Venture Pickup opens the Extended Look as Jason collects a package for Boobie Ike at the Venture Apartments; the Raul Bank Getaway has the pair meeting Raul Bautista mid-getaway after he robbed a Fleeca bank; and the Mega Mundo Gala closes it out, with Valentina hiring the duo as security at the Mega Mundo opening party.

Earlier footage showed the aerial Cargo Plane Job and the Vault Haul, where a vault is dragged behind a truck. The Prologue — The Leonida Job introduces the dual-protagonist flow and acts as the tutorial, followed by The Prison Release, where Jason waits outside Leonida Penitentiary as Lucia walks out, and Community Service, a grounded mission showing Lucia in an orange vest collecting roadside garbage while wearing an ankle monitor.

Is There a Grand Theft Auto VI Beta Game?

As of the source material, there is no confirmed public beta or playable Grand Theft Auto VI build. The game is unreleased, with launch set for November 19, 2026, so the vast majority of available guides are pre-release: they blend officially confirmed facts — the dual protagonists, the state of Leonida and its six regions, the Bonnie-and-Clyde premise — with clearly labelled analysis and estimates. Exact mission data will only be verifiable after launch.

The State of Leonida: Regions & Destinations

Beyond Vice City, six regions flesh out the state:

  • Vice City — The glamour, hustle, and greed of America captured in a single city.
  • Leonida Keys — A tropical archipelago where life isn’t flashy but it’s easy, sitting on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful and dangerous waters around.
  • Grassrivers — A primordial expanse where the gators may be the most famous attraction, but there are far deadlier predators and weirder discoveries among the mangroves.
  • Port Gellhorn — Cheap motels and shut-down attractions give way to a new economy fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and trouble.
  • Ambrosia — In the heart of Leonida, American industry and old school values still reign supreme, whatever the cost.
  • Mount Kalaga National Park — Prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails, with hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals in the surrounding backwoods.

Kelly County is the starting region of Act 1, where Lucia is confined by her ankle monitor, while Leonida Penitentiary is the prison where she was held before the story begins.

Characters: Jason, Lucia, and the Cast

  • Jason Duval — Grew up around grifters and crooks; after a stint in the Army, he found himself in the Keys working for local drug runners.
  • Lucia Caminos — Fighting for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary; sheer luck got her out, and now it’s smart moves only.
  • Cal Hampton — Jason’s friend and a fellow associate of Brian’s, happiest at home snooping on Coast Guard comms.
  • Boobie Ike — A local Vice City legend who turned street time into a legitimate empire spanning real estate, a strip club, and a recording studio.
  • Dre’Quan Priest — A hustler turned music mogul who runs Only Raw Records and signed the rap duo Real Dimez.
  • Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy) — Friends since high school who turned shaking down local dealers into spicy rap tracks and a relentless social presence.
  • Raul Bautista — A seasoned bank robber always hunting for talent ready to take the biggest risks.
  • Brian Heder — A classic drug runner from the golden age of Keys smuggling, still moving product through his boat yard.
  • Lori — Brian’s third wife, whose sangria Brian insists Jason stops by for.
  • Wyman — An eccentric collector and local fixer who commissions the Classic Car Collection.
  • Valentina and Andres de Leon — The client and guest at the Mega Mundo opening party where the duo work security.

Weapons: The Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers are his-and-hers versions with classic Vice City stylings sourced from the Vercetti Estate, complete with palm-tree-etched grips, engraved detailing, and a high-performance scope. Personalized sidearms include Jason’s Girardi ES9 pistol and Lucia’s Klose K17 pistol.

Vehicles: The ‘95 Grotti Cheetah is Grotti’s signature mid-’90s sports car and an ode to Shore Drive, with a minimalist retro-futuristic livery. The ‘55 Vapid Stanier sedan arrives with the Vintage Vice City Pack, while the ‘67 Vapid Dominator Buggy is a Mud Club monster offering impressive offroad handling for the backwoods of Mount Kalaga. Rounding out the garage are the Vapid Ganado low-riding pickup, the Dinka Enduro motorcycle, the Crest Kayak, the Shitzu Squalo boat (docked at Washington Beach, open-ocean-ready with an explosives-laden weapons crate), and the Declasse Tulip used as a getaway car.

Editions, Pre-Order Bonuses & In-Game Apps

GTA VI ships in a Standard Edition and an Ultimate Edition. Pre-ordering earns the Vintage Vice City Pack, which includes the two-tone ‘55 Vapid Stanier sedan and garage alongside Ocean Beach content and outfits. The Ultimate Edition expands the experience with personalized weapon variants, exclusive Vice City-style outfits, tattoos and more, Jason’s safehouse vehicles, a Ganado retro build, and access to the Rideout Customs Mod Shop, Sara’s Unisex Salon, Stock 305 Clothing Store, the Electric Fang Tattoo Parlor, and One-Eyed Willie’s Mod Shop. It also unlocks the PTT Youngin$ Compound raid, the Goodtime Gear capsule collection, and the Classic Car Collection commission, plus one month of GTA+ membership.

On the phone, a suite of satirical apps underpins daily life: BuckMe (a CashApp-style banking app holding the shared balance), RydeMe (a taxi and fast-travel app), Scooter Bros (vehicle recovery), WhatUp (texting and relationships), Waink (car scanning), and Snapmatic (a browse-only social network).

Story Missions & Heists

Confirmed and trailer-shown missions include the Prologue — The Leonida Job, The Prison Release, the Uncle Jack’s Robbery, The Tulip Getaway, the Cargo Plane Job, the Vault Haul, Community Service, the Venture Pickup, the Raul Bank Getaway, and the Mega Mundo Gala. Additional heists are described across the story’s acts — the Kelly County Depot in Act 1 (which rewards enough cash to hire a hacker who removes Lucia’s monitor), the Vice Port Bank Run in Act 2 (requiring three prep missions), and the Leonard County Vault, the final mission of Act 3 that determines the story’s ending. Other community-theorized jobs — the Vice Job, Keys Crossing, and the Gellhorn Docks Raid — have no confirmed mission by those names.
